USEPA Community Outreach Support Services

Brownfield Redevelopment Solutions, Inc. (BRS) supported exceptional community outreach and education through contracts with the New Jersey Institute of Technology on a wide range of projects for the US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA), Regions 1, 2, 3, and SRA, International.

BRS delivered:

  • Brownfield grant recipient kick-off workshop, community support and educational services
  • New York State Brownfields Roundtable meeting administration and coordination
  • New York, New Jersey and Puerto Rico Brownfields Interagency Working Group meeting development and direction
  • Grant writing and program implementation critiques and workshops

USEPA_Community-2USEPA Region 2 sponsored kick-off workshops in selected grant recipient communities to initiate assessment grants; these workshops brought various stakeholders together to develop USEPA assessment grant goals and objectives for their community. BRS identified community stakeholders, developed workshop content, facilitated and created a post-workshop action plan.

BRS further helped establish a strong agenda; identifying speakers, scheduling meetings and compiling discussion records for USEPA Region 2 sponsored quarterly New York State Brownfields Roundtables. These provided a forum for municipalities to share ideas, learn about the latest state and federal level brownfield programs and strategically move their individual programs ahead.

USEPA_Community-3The New York, New Jersey and Puerto Rico Interagency Working Group meetings are USEPA Region 2 sponsored community forums presenting priority redevelopment projects to federal and state agencies to identify potential avenues for technical and financial assistance. BRS helped communities identify priority projects and resources needed, assisting with the community presentation and positioning. BRS helped identify stakeholders, facilitated meetings and developed a powerful community action plan outlining commitments made by available agencies, as well as actions communities could take to successfully mover their projects forward.

USEPA_Community-4BRS has also provided grant writing assistance to communities in USEPA’s Regions 1, 2, and 3. Assistance includes direct critiques of draft proposals to assist in strategy development and to make specific suggestions for a more competitive presentation; to full day workshops providing training on establishing a brownfields program, developing a competitive grant strategy, and implementing cleanup and revolving loan fund programs.
